FINALLY! Lululemon is having a race!! The SeaWheeze Half Marathon!! Guess where it is. The first ever Lulu race is in their hometown of Vancouver! I was having a blah, rainy Monday and then I found out about this! Made my day. I wish I had time to write more about this but I have to get back to my real job so I can afford to go to Vancouver! They have developed GetSweatyGetReady (GSGR) based on feedback received that some want to run a half marathon and are coming at it with not much experience. GetSweatyGetReady is a walk to run program that will take you on a beginning to run journey up to the start of the Tackle Box. After you complete GSGR, you will be able to run 45 min in a row and be in prime condition to tackle the TackleBox (pun intended).

Congratulations to everyone who came out and paddled with us for the 2nd Annual My Aloha Cup stand up paddleboard race yesterday.

Winners and results will be posted soon. We had a great turnout and raised $2,200 for Habitat for Humanity! Thanks to the participants, spectators and volunteers. I am so desperate to do something really exciting with this GoPro video camera. I’m DYING to take it to The Keys (or better yet to Fiji) and go diving. Can’t hop on a plane today so the best I could do was paddleboard and try it out in Lake Norman again. It was actually warm enough today to get in the water so I briefly took it in. I am impressed with the clarity. I can only imagine how it would look in clear ocean water. Can’t wait.

Paddle Fit Class

Our instructors Brody Welte (founder of Paddle Fit) and Westy (Michael Westenberger) were extremely knowledgeable and made the class a great experience. They thoroughly covered all of the topics that we were tested on so that taking the actual certification exams was not stressful. We had a 100% pass rate even though Brody tried to scare us at first by saying that typically only 47% pass……NOT TRUE!

The course is divided into classroom and outdoor (in the water) segments. This particular course was the first ever one day Paddle Fit Class. Paddle Fit also offers two day courses. Course information for both classes can be found on the Paddle Fit website.

What certifications are included in this class? You will be Paddle Fit Certified as well as World Paddle Association (WPA) Class 1 certified as well. Besides the actual certification you will greatly benefit from the best practice sharing. Our class included a wide age and experience range (age 17-53 in this class).  Many have been involved in paddleboarding and paddleboard instruction for years so you can take advantage of their knowledge in the industry. It is a first start for me in building my SUP network around the country since there were participants from all over North America. Brody helps you to network by including you up in a facebook group exclusvely for Paddle Fit instructors. Below are some fun pictures from our weekend in Wrightsville Beach. Thanks to Brody, Westy and the class members for making it a valuable and memorable experience!!

Are you bored with your standard gym workout? Check out our Stand Up Paddleboard Fitness classes which will be held at Lake Norman starting in May. Paddleboard Fitness Class combines paddling, core strengthening and balance poses. It is a unique opportunity to exercise on the water. You do not have to be an advanced paddleboarder OR expert in Yoga to participate. As long as you have taken one introductory paddleboard lesson, you can sign up for the class through My Aloha Paddle Sports & Fitness.

The class will include basic fitness moves but will also give you the opportunity to try your advanced poses if you like.

The class schedule will be posted soon. We will be offering two weekday evening classes and one Saturday class as a start. Prices will range from $25-35 depending on the package that you select and whether or not you have your own paddleboard. You will have the option to use a board provided by My Aloha or bring your own.

Tonight I went in to Best Buy to get  a camera and came out with a GoPro Hero 2. Great job by the sales person at Best Buy!!! Do any of you have one?  If so, I’d love to hear how you like it….tricks to using it…..best ways to upload video, etc. Check back soon for updates on where my GoPro is going!!!

It has already been an adventure and I’ve only had it a few hours.  I use the term adventure loosely. So far I’ve managed to ride down my street on a bike with the GoPro on my head…not exactly an extreme sport! Hopefully tomorrow I can do something a little more exciting like dive with Great Whites.

I would post the video except that I forgot to turn the camera off while I punched in my garage code!!  Yep! Sorry about that because not only would you have the code to  my house but you could have also seen my blonde neighbor out on her porch in her robe trying to guide me in the dark! She isn’t the “quirky” one by the way.
